Review: 'if i built my home from paper' by Lexie Carroll

At the age of 17, Lexie Carroll has already established a warm and distinctive musical sound. Through her songwriting, Lexie shares sweet snippets of experiences and stories, tied together with soft vocals and beautifully bittersweet lyricism.

‘if i built my home from paper’ is a wonderfully warm song which explores the relationship between a mother and daughter. Lexie’s vulnerability is demonstrated through carefully crafted lyrics such as “If I built my home from paper, you’d say I’d done my best, and when the wolf comes round to blow it down, you’d build it back again”.

Stripped back production holds Lexie’s delicate vocals, with crescending strings bringing a smattering of colour to the mix. The result of this is a familiar, cozy embrace of a song, which will make you want to give your mother a hug.
